About Association for Washington Archaeology
Founded in 1981, the Association for Washington Archaeology is a non-profit organization committed to the protection of archaeological and historical resources in the State of Washington. Our membership consists mainly of professional archaeologists, although it is open to anyone with an interest in learning about and protecting the past. Membership in AWA costs a small fee, which is used to support AWA resources such as events, sponsorships, publications, and grants. Examples of AWA events include educational public lectures and exhibitions as well as social gatherings for members. AWA publications include a list of professional archaeological consultants working in Washington, a quarterly newsletter, and Archaeology in Washington an occasional peer-reviewed journal of research papers and field reports. Our grants have funded conference travel and research for many students and professionals working toward the study of Washington State's cultural heritage.
