About ATLANTA 1996: The Official Living Legacy Institution of the Atlanta 1996 Centennial Olympic Games
The ATL96 ITC was co-founded in 1996 by Prince ALBERT II of Monaco and Dr Marc-Daniel GUTEKUNST, and since 2002 both Ambassador Andrew YOUNG and Dr. Marc-Daniel GUTEKUNST have co-chaired the organization. The Atlanta 1996 International Training Center is also the Legacy Institution of the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games representing the City of Atlanta at the World Union of Olympic Cities (WUOC). From 2001 to 2007, the ATL96 ITC was known as the DeKalb International Training Center (DITC); when in 2007 the DITC became the official host of the USA Team Handball Men Team, the name changed to ATLANTA DITC; and finally, in 2012, the ATLANTA DITC name changed to Atlanta 1996 International Training Center (ATL96 ITC). The ATL96 ITC provides first class training to enable participating athletes to compete in the US and internationally while furthering their education to graduate with a high school, a vocational school, or a university degree. Athletes in training at the ATL96 ITC prepare for the Olympic Games and proudly represent their countries of origin and win Olympic Medals for their homeland. The ATL96 ITC promotes peace and reconciliation, and fosters exchanges between people and nations while respecting the socio-cultural and religious identity of each and every athlete in training and competing with us. Thus the ATL96 ITC mission statement: "Peace & Reconciliation Through Sports and Education (PARSE) ." Since June 2002, over 2000 athletes from 53 nations have trained and competed with the ATL96 ITC. Athletes trained at the ATL96 ITC have competed at the Athens 2004, Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and London 2012 Olympic Games, and won Olympic medals at both Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008. The ATLA96 ITC created and managed (July 25th – August 12th, 2012) the IOC endorsed London 2012 WUOC House™ during the London 2012 Olympic Games.
