Cyril Silberman and his team at Atlantic Marine Electric are on a mission to build the perfect yacht. A motor yacht owner and operator for over 45 years, Mr. Silberman is an experienced engineer and successful businessman who believes that the current recreational boating market is filled with embedded inefficiencies, poorly designed systems, and a general lack of integrated system design. Over the last three years, Mr. Silberman and his multi-disciplinary team of engineers have successfully converted an existing vessel, the 95-foot Heisley, Marabella III, into the 98-foot M/Y "Sobe Sunset"—an ultra-efficient luxury yacht employing solar generation, hybrid-electric propulsion, and a myriad of new patented technologies. Key Technologies Employed in M/Y Sobe Sunset: - 11,000 watts of solar electric generation. - 300,000-watt hours of lithium-ion battery storage allowing the vessel to remain in stand-by service with refrigeration and A/c on using only electricity from solar generation. - High voltage (750 VDC) electric distribution to all major devices in the ship including air conditioning. - 240/120 AC distribution for all standard hotel fixtures. - All domestic hot water is supplied with a desuperheater connected to the A/C system. - Rainwater is collected and channeled from the solar roof to conserve fresh water and reduce the electrical demand for the RO water maker. - Interior environmental ventilation systems are equipped with HEPA filters and UV antibacterial lamps. - Roll stabilizers are all HV electric. - The vessel is equipped with servo-controlled hydrofoils at the bow to reduce or eliminate pitch oscillations in a seaway. - A uniquely designed radio-controlled tender lift system at the stern. - A seawater pumped spud pole anchoring system. - The vessel is equipped with a hybrid electric/ diesel propulsion system allowing a number of different modes of operation.
