Atlas Swift is a family-run wine business founded by Martin Smith, acclaimed winemaker and entrepreneur, and his wife Welma Smith, certified sommelier, wine judge, and seasoned wine industry professional. Our winery, tasting room, and home are based in the heart of Franschhoek, South Africa — a region celebrated for its rich heritage, natural beauty, and world-class wines. Together, Martin and Welma bring decades of international experience across all facets of the wine industry. Martin’s winemaking journey has taken him through Napa Valley, France, and Italy, while Welma has worked extensively across hospitality, wine education, and global business development. Their combined expertise spans winemaking, microbiology, sommelier training, business management, and team leadership. Atlas Swift is the product of hard work, a shared vision, and a deep-rooted passion for both wine and land. Having grown up in the Cape Winelands, Martin and Welma are committed to crafting wines that reflect the diverse terroirs of the Western Cape, with a strong focus on Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. Each wine embodies their philosophy: thoughtful farming, gentle winemaking, and honest storytelling — all grounded in a profound love for place and people.
