About Au Fiat

Au Fiat is a Gen-Z, student-led, and Houston based Texas non-profit organization with the goal of making civic engagement normalized, productive, and accessible to everyone. By providing support to the following three problems, we're inviting you into the conversations that matter. Many People Aren't Comfortable Talking About Politics. Some feel too uninformed on how our government works to be a part of the conversation, or feel frustrated from what they do know. Regardless, without a network of support, this isolated frustration can lead to people staying or becoming non-voters. Understanding Philosophy is Hard Work Alone It's hard to have an opinion on actions when we don't have the whole context, and the philosophical reasoning behind them is part of that context. When political theories overwhelm us, we might not want to try and understand where people are coming from. If we're not able to listen and understand others, we're less likely to get involved in our communities or civic engagement. Making Civic Engagement More Language Accessible Despite so much work going into political research and conversation about that research, so much of it is inaccessible to non-academics. When political conversations are filled with jargon and there's no explanations to catch people up, people feel they don't belong and don't join the conversations. Au Fiat exists because we know it doesn't have to be this way. Through group discussions on current events, policy, and philosophy, we equip people with understanding. By providing voter registration and education, we empower communities to leverage their political power. And by making all these conversations candid, we make them more accessible. We're proud to have established our Au Fiat chapter at Houston Community College, and are excited to establish one at University of Houston Main soon.
