About Au-Some Mind

Au-Some Mind is a 501 (c) (3) organization that helps bring awareness to autism by providing emotional and educational support to families affected. Au-some Mind was founded by LaStarr Gholston on September 4, 2020. This foundation was created shortly after her younger son , Landon, was diagnosed with autism. Landon showed no signs of any delay within the first year of life. signs of autism during the first 10 months after his birth. A year later, Landon still had no vocabulary, he feared loud sounds and suffered from sensory problems. He was later admitted to the hospital after a routine checkup for high levels of lead in his blood. Alarmingly, his behavior continued changing at an unprecedented pace. He found it difficult to sit for long periods. After notifying the doctor, LaStarr was instructed to have Landon evaluated. After an hour and a half in the evaluation room with physicians, therapists, and other experts, LaStarr discovered that Landon had autism. The news, naturally, was overwhelming and devastating for the family. However, after constant encouragement and support from LaStarr and his family, Landon was enrolled in speech, occupational, and developmental therapy. Although, he is still nonverbal, he likes giving hugs and kisses. Moreover, he lives sorting fruit snacks into different colors and examining trees and leaves. As compared to any kid, Landon’s age, he loves bubbles, pizza, pepperoni, baths, and yogurt. Running and dancing is a pure talent. He is a bright and intelligent young boy who sets an example for us all. He persists in preserving and confronting everyday challenges and has determined that he will never give up. Landon is a very important member of his family and a source of inspiration for us all. Our vision is to promote a world where people with autism are able to maximize there capabilities with the access to resources.
