Augusta Ventures (Australia) Pty Ltd (“Augusta”) is built on a successful UK litigation funding business, Augusta Ventures Limited (“Augusta UK”), and is staffed by finance, legal and insurance professionals. Since inception in 2010, Augusta UK has established itself as the leading litigation funder in the UK by volume of claims funded. Augusta UK has funded 160 cases in the last four years with total investment of around +$85m. The investment process has been proven with a +85% win rate on resolved cases. Augusta introduced this successful model to Australia in May 2017. As with Augusta UK, Augusta distinguishes itself from traditional litigation funders by considering any size claim for funding - the existing market generally only considers claims with damages of greater than $3m to $5m. Augusta sources its capital from Augusta Securities Ltd (“ASL”) a Jersey based company. ASL has a debt facility of $200m with an accordion of a further funds. This has been provided by a large global investment business with over $1Trn in assets. The types of client who use Augusta: • a client (corporate or individual) with a meritorious commercial claim where the cost to run it is between $50k and $8m; and • the client does not wish to fund the litigation itself (even though it has the means to); or • the client cannot afford to bring the claim without financial assistance; and/or • the client is litigation risk adverse.
