Carol Ann Morgan Scott was a young woman with a talent for cooking. When she was just 17 years old in 1977, she came up with a special sauce recipe that would become a beloved family tradition. Her family would have "seafood night" on occasion, where they would cover the dining table with newspaper and eat endless amounts of blue crabs. It was on one of these nights that Carol first introduced her special sauce to her family. The recipe was a hit, and from then on, the family never had seafood without it. Carol's nephew, Tahjere Lewis, grew up with the sauce as a staple at family gatherings. When he was about to go off to college, he realized he would no longer have access to the sauce and asked his Aunt Carol where he could buy it. To his surprise, she responded, "Baby, I make this." He was astonished by her response and immediately went to telling her how big her sauce could be and that it should be in all stores across the world. On that day, Tahjere made a promise to his aunt that once he graduated from college, they would make their dream of sharing her sauce with the world into a reality. Unfortunately, during Tahjere's first year of college, Carol passed away from cancer. The loss of his beloved aunt was devastating, but it also propelled Tahjere to take action and honor her memory. Tahjere never forgot his promise to his aunt, and he decided to pursue their shared dream of sharing her sauce with the world. He spent years perfecting the recipe and finding the right manufacturing partners to bring the sauce to market. Finally, in 2020, while Tahjere was a sophomore at Virginia Tech University, Aunt Carol's sauce came to fruition. The sauce is now available for purchase online and in select stores, and Tahjere hopes to expand its availability in the future. He wants Aunt Carol's sauce to be a part of more families' traditions, just as it was for his own family. Tahjere believes that the sauce brings people together and that it's a way to honor his aunt.
