About Austin & Lily Solutions

Austin & Lily is a boutique educational company dedicated to inspiring, motivating, and informing educators working with students with intellectual disabilities. We have developed a brand new approach to curriculum development that meets the academic and social needs of students with Intellectual Disabilities (IDs). We have authored books and printable activities that build background knowledge on topics that typically developing people know, and as a result, we develop culturally literate people. Our curriculum is a giant step toward truly preparing students with intellectual disabilities to develop to their potential. Cultural Literacy and Language Acquisition theory along with best practices for students with IDs informed the development of this unique program. Students will develop significant background knowledge regarding famous people, places, events and things while simultaneously increasing their vocabulary, reading, writing, and social skills as well as addressing other IEP goals. My business partner and I both hold graduate degrees in special education and we each have a child with Down syndrome. Our unique experience being professionally and personally immersed in the topic has provided a valuable new perspective on curriculum design for this population. What is truly exciting, is that our materials are easy to use, will build skills in many areas, and students of all ages and all functionality levels love the program. Because the materials are properly modified, students are successful and learning about new topics all the time which increases self-esteem.
