About Australia Japan Innovation Fund
The Australia Japan Innovation Fund (AJIF) is the new name for the Foundation for Australia Japan Studies (FAJS). We are an independent, not-for-profit organisation established in Australia that facilitates private-sector funding to support scientific and technology collaborations between academic institutions, industry and government in Australia and Japan. Our mission is to elevate the profile of Australia-Japan collaboration in science, technology and innovation and support the people who are transforming the bilateral relationship through these partnerships. We began as an initiative of the Australia-Japan Foundation (Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade). Rio Tinto became the inaugural industry partner in 2014, when it committed financial support for the promotion of academic and research links between Australian and Japanese universities, industry and government. It renewed its commitment to AJIF in 2024.
