Also SA opened its first sequencing centre (SC) at the East London Industrial Development Zone (ELIDZ) in April 2021. The 5 300m" facility supports the new generation C-Class production at Mercedes- Benz South Africa (MBSA) plant. The sequencing centre (SC) ensures that an OEM assembly line worker turns around and finds the right part waiting there at the right time. The sequencing centre (SC) can also execute light assembly work, in line with the drive of local value add in the supply chain. The main objective of the facility is to drive efficiency, Quality and on time delivery. The ELIDZ plant will focus on the sequencing of components and subassemblies of the new C-Class sedan and supporting Tier 1 components manufacturers in the ELIDZ with contract logistics services. The parts will come from various suppliers in South Africa and various locations in Europe. This will enable ALSO to generate one pearl chain for MBSA into their plant- removing some of the complexity in supply. Current Tier 1 suppliers (sequencing and supply to MBSA): Bilstein (JIS incl line side) Tenneco (JIS incl. line side) MBSA / Autoliv (Transport/JIS/line side) Boysen Exhaust (Transport/line side) Auria (Transport/JIS/line side) Nemetris - Cloud based IT system implemented to ensure a seamless integration and easy access (In house developed MRP software) A key focus in building a successful sequencing centre (SC) is using a powerful information technology (IT) system that can track and trace all various components flowing into the plant. The ELIDZ plant is using a European solution from NEMETRIS, a company that has been in production logistics for more than 20 years.
