About Automotive Manufacturers Equipment Compliance Agency
The Automotive Manufacturers Equipment Compliance Agency, Inc. (AMECA) is a 3rd party safety registration and ISO-17065 Certification Body. We work to protect the motoring public from substandard and untraceable parts. We support the police officer in identifying non-compliant, illegal and unsafe equipment. Our ISO-Certification program is an exclusive, limited entry, program. The ISO-program uses federal, industry and SAE Standards to certify products. A2LA accredited since 2017, we offer certification for automotive lighting, safety glass, suspension components and brake hose. The AMECA Equipment Compliance Program, originally started by AAMVA in 1967, is a centralized one-stop program that notifies government, industry and the general public about items of motor vehicle safety equipment. All items have been tested by an AMECA-accredited laboratory and found to be in compliance with applicable FMVSS/SAE standards. AMECA is a brake registrar for California’s Department of Toxic Stances Control. The international "List of Acceptable Plastics for Optical Lenses and Reflectors Used on Motor Vehicles" is also maintained by AMECA. We have over 80 accredited laboratories in 16 countries. AMECA maintains close and regular communication with its accredited laboratories and conducts periodic physical audits of the laboratory as well as providing them with current standards and regulatory information. Many state laws regulating automotive safety equipment were promulgated by the Vehicle Equipment Safety Commission (VESC) of the Vehicle Equipment Safety interstate compact. VESC regulations continue to be used by the states. AMECA is custodian of the VESC files and has all signed agreements pertaining to operation of the VESC.
