Why would a client appoint a small one man electrical consultancy like AEP? Simple, as I do all my estimates, electrical connections, designs, drawings, specifications, bills of quantities, tendering processes, appointment of the exact required electrical contractors, attending all progress and technical meetings myself . I design installations I can execute myself(by being a qualified electrician myself with a wireman’s licence). Electrical contractors can understand my drawings easily with all relevant information illustrated and no need to keep the Detailed Specification on site all the time. If a client engage with a larger consultancy, he will still deal only with one person in this company. Larger companies may take a bit longer to produce updated/revised drawings due to a bigger wheel turning a bit slower. I can nominate another engineer in the beginning of a project approved by the client in order to complete the project if something happens to me. I can also make quick decisions on site to resolve any hiccups on site. “As build” drawings are done correctly with my site supervision and inspection skills. This way of providing consulting services will happen more and as the available funds for these services is becoming more and more tight in their budgets. Larger companies can cut professional fees due to larger overheads. Bigger contracts can be done in a joint venture with another one man bussiness in order to satisfy the needs.
