About Avenue 3 Miami

Avenue 3 Miami is both a community-driven movement and future pedestrian-oriented street. At Avenue 3 Miami we aim to catalyze grassroots transformation in Miami's urban core. We are a group of passionate Downtown residents and businesses who want to effect positive change through our three central initiatives: streetscape transformation, homeless outreach, and crime prevention to create a safe and vibrant signature street for Downtown Miami. Streetscape Transformation: We believe that creating a more vibrant Downtown starts with prioritizing people on the streets, and making simple and organic improvements to the existing streetscape to help local businesses thrive. We subscribe to the belief that "the city street is the river of life, where we come together" (William H. Whyte). Homeless Outreach: We are exploring solutions to the complex challenges faced by Downtown's unsheltered population. By fostering relationships with those who are developing tools— like mobile applications— across the country, we hope we can bring a new human-centered approach to homelessness issues. Crime Prevention: Through various outreach efforts, Avenue 3 Miami will encourage Downtown residents to take advantage of the community policing programs offered by the City of Miami Police Department, with the goal of forming a Downtown Neighborhood Watch: an entity that will not just "watch" the streets, but also foster positive interactions between all of our Downtown inhabitants. In October 2018, the Avenue 3 team executed a multi-day activation called Taste of Avenue 3 to help the Downtown community envision a transformed NE 3rd Avenue, one that repurposed the on-street parking to create more space for pedestrians. The team used this activation as a springboard to align its three objectives, and create near- and long-term goals.
