About Avian Welfare Coalition

The Avian Welfare Coalition (AWC) is an advocacy group formed in 2000 to raise awareness of the issues most critical to overall protection of avian species impacted by the exotic pet trade. We also promote ways to improve the welfare of birds already in captivity. AWC serves as an educational resource for the humane community, law-makers, and the general public. We offer the only dedicated Avian Shelter Outreach Program designed to aid the animal sheltering community on the special care needs of exotic birds within a short-term shelter setting. AWC works to increase legal protections for captive birds and to support legitimate conservation programs aimed at preserving birds' rightful place in the wild.
