The name Aviva represents the two things we care most about: Freshness and Family. Aviva means "fresh," like spring and is the name of Chef Kameel's dear sister. Aviva by Kameel has been the culmination of a life’s work that is now growing into the next generation. Born in Nazareth, as the youngest of 11 children, Kameel Srouji’s passion for food began at an early age. He eagerly helped his mother and sisters make family meals that were often served to extended family and neighbors. His mother instilled culinary principles in Kameel that he has carried throughout his career as a Chef and Restaurateur. These principles include the exclusive use of premium ingredients and Olive Oil, a meticulous attention to cleanliness, and the utilization of generational family recipes. A commitment to these principles has shaped Kameel into the Chef he is and led to his crowning achievement: Aviva by Kameel. When Kameel immigrated to America in 1982 he dreamed of teaching Americans about the values of the Mediterranean diet, just as his mom and sisters had taught him. Kameel Srouji has created and operated other successful restaurants in Atlanta. His first, "Cafe Aviva", was an upscale, full-service restaurant on Crescent Avenue featuring an extensive wine list and diner’s club. His next venture was a fast casual concept named "Kameel’s Cafe", which grew to 3 locations. Aviva by Kameel has been the modern implementation of everything Kameel has learned about food and service over his lifetime. Since he was a child, Kameel saw the joy that a wholesome family meal brought people. He has been working to bring customers delicious, healthy food and make them feel like family ever since.
