About Awakening Minds Art
Awakening Minds Art is a nonprofit organization that provides therapeutic and educational visual art programming to all ages and abilities. Awakening Minds Art is housed in Findlay, Ohio and travels to nursing homes, schools, day-hab facilities, rehab centers, day cares and more to provide unique, individualized service. Our educational programs focus primarily on visual art education for all ages and abilities. While visual art education is the surface goal of the educational programs, life-skill goals such as teamwork, communication, group manners, and social skills are always worked on during class. Homeschool Visual Arts and public group programs that are open to anyone in the community are two examples of educational programs. Our therapeutic programs target all ages of the special-needs population. For our private, one-on-one students, instructors communicate with the student’s education support team, occupational and speech therapists, parents, and other caregivers to aid in the creation of a personalized plan for each student. These plans focus on goals for life skills such as motor development, sensory processing, social skills, language development, and confidence building. In programs such as those offered in local special education classrooms, therapeutic and educational programming overlaps. Instructors teach to the goals of the classroom, meeting the students where they’re at, ability-wise--teaching them skills and celebrating their accomplishments. www.AwakeningMindsArt.org
