About Award Canada
Award Canada (The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award - Canada) empowers young people in Canada aged 14-24 to develop life skills, build confidence, and discover their potential through experiential learning. The Award is a globally recognized youth development framework that equips educators, mentors, school boards, and community organizations to inspire and challenge youth. Since 1963, over 500,000 young people in Canada have benefitted from this transformative experience. Award Canada collaborates with schools, community organizations, and adult mentors to deliver the Award. Through these partnerships, we make experiential learning accessible to all young people, ensuring they have the support to build resilience, leadership, and essential skills for future success. Our innovative co-curricular approach integrates the Award into education systems, enabling schools and school boards to use the framework as part of a holistic learning model that complements formal education. By participating in the Award’s four key areas—community service, physical activity, skill development, and adventurous journeys—young people gain valuable experiences that prepare them for life, careers, and education. This co-curricular alignment emphasizes the importance of non-formal education in fostering personal growth and equipping youth with the tools to thrive in an ever-changing world. Operating coast to coast to coast, the Award engages over 11,000 participants annually with the support of 1,400 dedicated volunteers. Our mission is to expand access for diverse youth, increase our presence in schools and communities, and deliver high-impact initiatives that inspire personal growth and community engagement. Whether you’re a parent, educator, or community leader, the Award offers a powerful tool to empower youth. Whoever you are, wherever you’re from, and whatever success means to you, the Award can help you achieve it. Learn more: dukeofed.org.
