Backcourt Collective didn’t start in a boardroom or with a marketing budget. It started in group chats, living rooms, and on road trips to WNBA games. It started with the sweat equity of WNBA fans in Portland who built what they’d been waiting for: spaces and experiences that elevate the WNBA, honor the game, amplify its presence, and fuel the growth of a thriving fan culture. What started as Portland’s premier WNBA fan community and its goings-on of weekly watch parties and events surrounding the league’s biggest moments has evolved into what it was always destined to be: a collection of fans, local bars, small businesses, and creatives - the people who shape Portland’s cultural identity - partnering in service of the W. And that’s the origin — and future — of Backcourt Collective. We are working to become the cultural and civic engine for the Portland WNBA franchise. A citywide coalition of individuals, businesses, artists, sports bars, and organizers united to build a thriving, engaged, and inclusive WNBA culture. We envision a fully realized cultural ecosystem where the WNBA is embedded into the identity of our city -- a city where basketball wasn’t supposed to belong, but now does. We aren’t the brand. We are the backbone. We are more than fans. We are Backcourt Collective.
