About Backyard Farms Africa

A South African social enterprise working with unemployed women in the townships to create agri-preneurs. We supply seedlings, fertiliser, tools and training to create little working farms in private backyards and community gardens. Most importantly we provide a route-to-market for all of their produce, collecting their harvests and paying pre-agreed prices per kg. Typical harvests include chillies, fresh herbs, red peppers and tomatoes which are all added to our growing range of table and cooking sauces. We have an omni-channel sales strategy including online sales, private and national retailers, markets and food service. Our brand ‘Backyard Farms’ has a unique story which attracts both local and international customers buying for home consumption and as gifts. Our products are halal and made in a fully certified food production facility in the Cape Winelands. Our goal is to become a household food brand within South Africa and start international expansion of both Backyard Farms and private label products.
