About Badirammogo Water User Association
Following the gazetting of our amended Constitution by the Minister of Water and Sanitation on 16 May 2025, the Lebalelo Water User Association (LWUA) has officially transitioned to the Badirammogo Water User Association (BWUA). More than just a name change, it reflects the transformation of the Association’s role through the Olifants Management Model Programme (OMMP), the expansion of our area of operation and the broadening of our mandate beyond bulk raw water provision to the construction of potable water and reticulation infrastructure for communities. While BWUA (formerly LWUA) will not operate nor maintain potable infrastructure (this remains the responsibility of the relevant Water Service Authority or Provider) we will continue to self-finance, build, operate and maintain bulk raw water infrastructure to ensure uninterrupted supply to our members across the Mogalakwena Local and Sekhukhune District Municipalities in Limpopo, South Africa. Established in 2002, the Association is an entity of public-private collaboration under the National Water Act with membership comprising the Department of Water and Sanitation and various mining companies. We consistently deliver uninterrupted water supply, with zero fatalities and less than 1% water losses annually, a testament to our expertise in water infrastructure management. Our infrastructure currently comprises a 110 km bulk raw water pipeline, which runs from Modubeng to Mototolo Mine, an abstraction weir on the Olifants River, settlement ponds, storage dams, pump stations and reservoirs. Commissioned in 2002, our infrastructure was extended to its current length through the Southern Extension (SE1) project in 2007 and the Southern Extension 2 (SE2) Phase 1 project, which was commissioned in April 2024 by the then Minister of Water and Sanitation. Despite our name change, we remain driven by our purpose: Improving lives through water – enhancing the quality of life where we work and live.
