Baldwin Research Institute, Inc. are developers of the first and only non-disease based, non-12-step program. The Saint Jude Retreat & The Freedom Model is also the only program that continuously evolves based on research and is the only program that publishes the results of ongoing independent outcome studies. Since 1992 the average abstinence based success rate based on the outcome studies is 62%, more than 12 times the estimated success rate of 12 step and disease based programs. More than two decades of our research combined with decades of scientific research performed by others has shown unequivocally that addiction is not a disease and treating it as such has systematically destroyed generations of people who are told they cannot control themselves and their behaviors, and therefore do not have the power to change. In order to overcome substance use and other behavioral problems, people must first believe they do have control and thus have the power to change their own lives.
