The Banner Poison and Drug Information Center (BPDIC) is one of 55 U.S. Poison Centers certified by Americas Poison’s Centers. Our staff is comprised of nurses and pharmacists in the role of Certified Specialists in Poison Information (CPSI) and allied healthcare staff in the role of Poison Information Providers (PIP). Our mission is to promote the health and safety of the community by serving as the primary resource for the residents and Healthcare professionals of Maricopa County for: • Accidental and intentional poisonings • Envenomations • Toxicity or adverse effects of medications or chemicals • Providing education for the public and healthcare professionals in poison prevention and treatment • Assessing and treating accidental and intentional poisonings by telephone triage, consultation and follow-ups. The Poison HelpLine (800-222-1222) is 24/7, anonymous, and free. BPDIC is one of two Poison Centers located in Arizona. Our partner center, the Arizona Poison and Drug Information Center, located in Tucson, Arizona serves the remaining 14 counties in Arizona. We offer interpreter services in over 200 languages for non-native English callers. For complex toxicologic emergencies, our staff is backed up the Medical Toxicology physicians and fellows at Banner - University Medical Center Phoenix. The Medical Toxicology group is one of the busiest in the country, providing admit and consult services at BUMCP and Phoenix Children’s Hospital and directly oversees the medical management of almost 1800 patients a year.
