About Barbara Stone Foundation
Barbara Stone Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Greenville, South Carolina, United States. What We Believe: Our community can be a better place to live for individuals with disabilities. Funding Priorities: programs and initiatives that (a) empower individuals with disabilities and enlighten our community, (b) bridge gaps in existing programs and services, (c) provide solutions to issues faced by the disabilities community and (d) encourage collaboration among service providers. Our focus is all individuals with disabilities as defined by the Americans With Disabilities Act 2010 definition. These include the YMCA RECESS Program, Carolina Dance Collaborative and Invitation to the Dance: a Film by Sarah Shoemaker. Our Programs: •CAN Talks •Greenville CAN •UP Employment Initiative •Barbara Stone Community Leadership Award •Greenville CAN Lunch & Learn Series Our History: In 1968, Barbara brought together Greenville County families and community leaders, including leaders from the school district, Department of Social Services, Vocational Rehabilitation Department, Social Security Commission, and Mental Retardation Commission. They determined that the greatest and most immediate needs were daycare options for children with disabilities and special needs and sheltered workshops for adults with disabilities and special needs.
