About BARC Labs
BARC Labs is a fine arts conservation studio proudly established in Singapore in 2022. We specialise in the care of modern and contemporary Southeast Asian artworks, with a focus on paintings conservation. Our mission is to strengthen the region’s conservation landscape through three pillars: · Conservation — Professional treatments, condition assessments, and technical expertise that balance aesthetics, ethics, and long-term care. · Research — Low-tech, practice-based studies that reveal insights into artists’ materials and methods, informing preservation strategies. · Outreach — Workshops, talks, and interactive programs that make conservation accessible and build awareness among collectors, institutions, and the public. Since our founding, we have treated over 1,000 artworks, led landmark projects such as Cheong Soo Pieng: Layer by Layer (2024) at National Gallery Singapore and the conservation of Chen Wen Hsi’s Studio I & II murals (2025), and grown into a team of three full-time local conservators. At BARC Labs, we don’t just conserve art — we’re building the future of conservation in Singapore.
