About Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST)
BIST (The Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology) is an institution of scientific cooperation of seven frontier research Catalan centers of high impact. Its purpose is to gather and multiply the efforts of excellence and impact of the centers that constitute it, to improve their contribution, the knowledge system, and the society that promotes them. It does so by aggregating its critical mass articulating it as a community, by promoting its multidisciplinary scientific cooperation, and by strengthening and boosting its institutional capacity. The BIST scientific community is made up of seven research centres, each with the highest level of excellence in its area of expertise: • Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) • Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) • The Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO) • Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) • Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2) • Institute for High Energy Physics (IFAE) • Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona) BIST Community expertise covers the core and the intersections of disciplines such as genetics, photonics, high-energy physics, chemistry, nanotechnology, biomedicine and bioengineering. BIST Community is composed by 2,500 researchers, scientific and technical staff labouring at the edge of science to seek disruptive solutions to treat life-threatening diseases, design amazing medical devices, build the communications media of the future, and contribute to a more sustainable world by producing clean energies and transforming pollution into useful resources.
