About Bardejov Jewish Preservation Committee

RESTORATION is both physical and historical. We work to repair and restore spaces of cultural and religious significance to the Jewish community who once lived, worked and played in Bardejov. We also pursue a greater understanding of this history through ongoing research, genealogical investigation, and our work with collective memory. EDUCATION explores this history, Jewish culture, tradition and local significance for people of all ages. In so doing, we invigorate dialogue promoting awareness and tolerance and reconnect citizens of Bardejov to a past they have inherited. Engaged historical education is critical in the ongoing pursuit of a just world, resistant to racism and xenophobia. COMMEMORATION occurs through our annual memorial events, lectures, our publications such as the Memorial Book of Jewish Bardejov, and on heritage tours of the Bardejov Holocaust Memorial and other important buildings in the Jewish Suburbia, which honors the Jewish citizens of Bardejov and the vicinity who were murdered during the Holocaust.
