About Basketball Hawthorn
We are a Basketball Victoria-affiliated association in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, whose roots trace back to the 1970s. Initially known as the Hawthorn Basketball Association, we introduced a junior domestic competition in 1988 and our first Hawthorn Magic representative team in 1991. Over time, this entity evolved into Basketball Hawthorn, emerging as one of Basketball Victoria's largest affiliated associations, with a significant portion of its membership hailing from the City of Boroondara. Basketball Hawthorn oversees a thriving Senior Domestic Competition, participates in the EDJBA and VJBL as Hawthorn Magic, and offers various beginner and development programs and competitions. Basketball Hawthorn’s purpose is to deliver an exceptional basketball experience that supports the enjoyment and development of all individuals within a safe and inclusive environment. Our vision is to be the region's leading community sports organisation, welcoming and uniting all individuals regardless of background, beliefs or ability. Our 3-Year Strategic Plan, released in April 2024, serves as a comprehensive roadmap guiding us towards realising our vision of becoming a premier basketball association and a vital contributor to the vibrant fabric of the Boroondara community. At the heart of our plan lies a commitment to excellence and integrity, which guide our actions on and off the court. We aspire to redefine the benchmarks of success for community sports organisations.
