About Bausch + Lomb Ireland
Bausch + Lomb is a leading global eye health business that is solely focused on helping people see better to live better. Our core businesses include over-the-counter products, dietary supplements, eye care products, ophthalmic pharmaceuticals, contact lenses, lens care products, ophthalmic surgical devices and instruments. We develop, manufacture and market one of the most comprehensive product portfolios in the industry, which is available in approximately 100 countries. In 1980, we established a contact lens manufacturing plant in Waterford, Ireland. Today, our facility in Waterford is a multi-function complex. It is also one of two contact lens manufacturing facilities for Bausch + Lomb worldwide. The facility is currently undergoing construction to increase the capacity available to manufacture the company’s latest contact lens, Bausch + Lomb INFUSE®, which is distributed to countries all over the world. Once complete, the entire complex will cover a total of 700,000 square feet. We pride ourselves on being a premier employer in the Waterford region. Today our workforce includes well-trained manufacturing employees, as well as highly skilled workers that support our various key functions: engineering, quality, information technology, materials science, metrology, analytical chemistry, microbiology, packaging, health and safety and planning and more. We have pioneered many environmentally friendly initiatives, including a combined heat and power plant, which supplies 65 per cent of the facility’s power requirements, saving 3,500 tonnes of carbon dioxide a year. We have also installed electric vehicle charging stations and more are planned. Energy efficient motors and variable speed drives supply utilities services to manufacturing, thus minimising energy usage. Our new buildings have been constructed to the highest standards of thermal efficiency as we subscribe to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) to ensure lower operating costs.
