Im deutschen Sprachraum ist der Bauverlag der größte Anbieter von Fachinformationen für Architektur und Bau. An den Standorten Gütersloh und Berlin und in der Geschäftsstelle in München produzieren rund 130 Mitarbeiter 18 Zeitschriften und zahlreiche Sonderpublikationen. Der Verlag ist am 1. Juli 2002 aus der Bertelsmann Fachzeitschriften GmbH (Gütersloh) und der Bauverlag GmbH (Walluf) entstanden. Beide Verlage blicken auf eine lange und erfolgreiche Geschichte zurück. Die 1953 gegründete DBZ Deutsche Bauzeitschrift bildete den Grundstein der Bertelsmann Fachzeitschriften GmbH. Durch weitere Gründungen und Zukäufe wuchs das Programm bis 2000 auf 11 Zeitschriften und zahlreiche Sonderpublikationen. Der 1929 in Berlin als "Verlag der Bau-Kurier GmbH" gegründete Bauverlag mit Sitz zuletzt in Walluf war mit 7 Zeitschriften der führende Verlag im Bereich der Herstellung von Baustoffen. Im August 2000 wurde die Bauverlag GmbH (Walluf) gekauft und 2002 mit den Bertelsmann Fachzeitschriften zum BertelsmannSpringer Bauverlag verschmolzen und firmiert seit September 2003 unter Bauverlag BV GmbH.
