About Baylie's Wish Foundation
At Baylie’s Wish Foundation, our mission is clear: empowering college students and their families with the tools, resources, and education needed to make safe decisions and access crucial support when it matters most. Scott and Shawnee Baker founded Baylie's Wish Foundation in honor of their daughter Baylie, a vibrant young woman whose life was tragically cut short by preventable circumstances while away at college. Baylie’s life was defined by kindness, justice, and a deep commitment to helping others. Through advocacy, education, and simple but powerful changes, we honor her legacy by creating a safer environment for college students nationwide, ensuring no family endures the same heartache. Our core programs include: Health Care Proxy Forms with Every College Admission: Baylie’s wish was for every student to have the ability to name a healthcare proxy at 18. Without one, parents can be denied access to critical medical information in emergencies, delaying essential care. Our goal is to ensure these forms are included in every college admission, giving families peace of mind in times of crisis. Safe Weekend Program & On-Call Parent Advocates: College students often face high-pressure situations that require mature decision-making, but their brains are still developing, making them more vulnerable to poor choices—especially under the influence. Baylie’s Wish supports students by advocating for amnesty policies, ensuring they can seek help without fear of punishment. Our Safe Weekend Program provides access to volunteer "on-call parents" via text to guide students through crises. Baylie’s tragic death is part of a larger pattern of preventable accidents and deaths on campuses, underscoring the urgent need for systemic change. Whether by sharing Baylie’s story, supporting our initiatives, or volunteering, together we can turn Baylie’s wish into a reality.
