Shawn uses peer mentorship skills, life coaching skills, and "action-oriented counseling" to help clients explore their issues, reach insights, and then act efficiently. [Note: This service is not for emergencies. In the event of an emergency, call 988 for confidential Crisis Support services in all of B.C., at any time.] As a survivor of the insidious "Make America Great Again" movement in Canada, Shawn coaches resilience in all persons he helps. Shawn helps clients to overcome hardship, uncertainty, confusion, and a lack of motivation. Peer Mentorship brings the counseling to the client's level. Clients can perceive a clinical counselor to be "lording over them" with knowledge, experience, or even privilege. Shawn is different: as a survivor himself, Shawn has a mental illness and must live with this condition every day. Shawn reaches clients where they are at so that they can confront daily circumstances together, in a therapeutic alliance. The client leads therapy, not Shawn. Each session includes a 45-minute one-on-one discussion, followed by 15-minutes of either meditation coaching, spiritual discussion, or long-distance Reiki. Our mentees may also choose to take the time for themselves, for example, to write in a reflection journal, report in a "WRAP" document, or just relax alone. We promise to make you a priority. We DO NOT place clients in "group medical visits" under any circumstances. Shawn has experienced these group visits and we do not organize these groups so as to protect our clients with mental health conditions. Our clinic strongly advocates against the use of group medical visits unless such a group is expressly consented and paid for as such. It is our personal commitment to protect your privacy, guard healthcare information, enforce your own boundaries, and to provide regular, understandable written reports about your progress.
