About BC Society for the Museum of Original Costume
Located in Vancouver on the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations, SMOC is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1992 with the purpose of building, preserving, and studying a world-class collection of historical fashion and textiles. The organization has a dedicated Board and volunteers who maintain and develop an impressive array of activities and programs. SMOC hosts eight events annually to engage the public in fashion education events and raise funds to care for the collection. Items from the collection are on display at the Old Hastings Mill Store Museum and are currently featured in the exhibition Dressed for History at the Museum of Vancouver. SMOC aims to foster cultural connections within the community, expand public programs and digital access to the collection, and establish a new space to store and care for the collection.
