About Beacon Self-Directed Learning Inc

Beacon Self-Directed Learning Center is an alternative to school for youth ages 9 to 18 years. Beacon provides small classes, tutorials, advisory meetings, and parent meetings to facilitate and support learning outside of traditional school. Families choose Beacon for different reasons. Approximately half of our families have children and teens who are lifelong home-schoolers. Others choose Beacon for various reasons, but primarily because the environment and instruction within traditional school is not working for them and they need a new way. Beacon focuses on the student’s strengths, needs, and goals. We meet each student where they are and support them moving forward. Beacon has been giving families a choice in education since spring 2013. Beacon is a flexible, non-coercive, safe, and welcoming community. Beacon supports families from all over Connecticut and presently operates Tuesday through Friday, 9 to 3 pm. Beacon is a 501(c)(3).
