About Beaj Education

Beaj is an early-stage EdTech startup on a mission to make high quality 21st century skill-development affordable and accessible to anyone in Pakistan. Learning outcomes in Pakistan are dismal: 77% of 10-year-olds can’t read a sentence and 50 million students will leave K-12 education without essential skills required to succeed in the 21st century. These include language proficiency, communication, critical thinking and digital skills. ~2 million inadequately qualified graduates become teachers, with little or no access to professional development, reinforcing the vicious cycle of poor learning outcomes, a poorly skilled workforce, and poorly trained future teachers. The English language is a major pain point: curriculum policy requires teachers not only to teach English as a subject, but also to teach Math and Science in it. In the labour market, access to higher-paying and white-collar jobs as well as global freelance and tech markets is heavily predicated on English proficiency. But only 6% of teachers are English-proficient, and they predominantly teach the wealthy. At Beaj Education, we are on a mission to democratize skills that have historically only been available to a privileged few. We do this by using low-cost technology to provide affordable access to high-quality skill-development courses, designed by world-class instructors and customized for Pakistani teachers, students, and young professionals. Our goal is to reach a million users by 2030.
