About BEIC Project Ethiopia

The Business Environment and Investment Climate, including E-government (BEIC) Project, funded by the European Union and implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, focuses on contributing to Ethiopia’s national flagship initiative: “Ethiopian Ease of Doing Business (EoDB), Medium-Term Reform Roadmap”. BEIC aims to support the reforms envisaged by the Government of Ethiopia (GoE) within this EoDB Framework. The overall objective of the project is to contribute to the improvement of the business environment in Ethiopia, to foster private sector development and the generation of employment and income opportunities in the context of the EoDB programme of the government. The BEIC project’s expected results are: 1. Strengthen the capacity of public sector entities in Ethiopia to implement reforms in improving the country’s business environment. 2. Establish and modernize e-government systems and build operational capacities for these systems. 3. Support public-private dialogue in Ethiopia as well as existing and potential investors. The BEIC project has the following beneficiaries: • Ministry of Revenues (MoR) • Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration (MoTRI) • Ministry of Innovation and Technology (MInT) • National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) • European Chamber in Ethiopia Other stakeholders include the Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations (ECCSA), Ethiopian Women Entrepreneurs Association (EWEA) and the Ministry of Justice (MoJ). The BEIC project is implemented by GIZ International Services in collaboration with McKinsey & Company.
