About Berkshire Natural Resources Council
What does the Earth ask of us?” Robin Wall Kimmerer, Braiding Sweetgrass With an eye on our shared future, Berkshire Natural Resources Council (BNRC) cares for the land and connects people with nature. We ensure that the green forests, clean rivers, and productive farms of the Berkshires stay healthy for all who depend on them. Since 1967, BNRC has conserved land, which means it is protected from development forever. More than 27,000 acres of land across the region is now in the direct care of BNRC. Public access to BNRC reserves is always free, so we can all experience the beauty that the Berkshire mountains have to offer. BNRC assists other organizations, state entities, Indigenous communities, towns and cities, in the conservation of forests, fields, farms, waters, and peaks across the county. By building and maintaining trails, prioritizing accessibility, and providing Spanish-language resources, we help people go into nature and experience its magic. Our programs help our community discover the benefits of nature for the body, mind, and spirit. Together, we explore the wonder of the living things that surround us and find joy in restoring and caring for our home. This land, and all of the present-day Berkshires, are the ancestral homeland of the Mohican people, who were forcibly displaced to Wisconsin by European colonization. These lands continue to be of great significance to the Stockbridge-Munsee Mohican Nation today.
