About Berlin Farms Gmbh
Berlin Farms GmbH specializes in urban farming solutions. It was founded in Berlin in 2022, with the mission to increase the availability of nutrient-rich crops grown locally and sustainably in urban environments. Our founders met as colleagues at Smart Soil Technologies GmbH, where they developed a shared fascination for Indoor Vertical Farming (IVF). Through first-hand experience greens and exotics in indoor vertical systems, they began seeing IVF as a major future source of locally grown crops in a world marked by shrinking arable land. But IVF still needs to overcome some limitations if it is to become a beacon of sustainable and efficient crop production. IVFs’ reliance on artificial lighting makes them dependent on fluctuating energy prices that can cause powerful shocks in times of crisis, while the extensive use of chemical fertilizers for plant growth often leads to sustainability and efficiency problems. We founded Berlin Farms because we want IVF to flourish into a truly sustainable source of locally grown crops. We believe in the power of soil and sunlight, and we’re reimagining IVF in ways that integrate nature’s most abundant resources to improve efficiency and sustainability. Our vision is to create an IVF system powered by sunlight and renewable energy while using nutrient-rich soil to propel plant growth. The future of urban farming needs to exploit the powers of nature in concert with evolving technologies. The first step toward fulfilling our vision is Supergruen, where we offer nutrient-rich greens grown in Berlin without pesticides or fertilizers. We want to offer our customers a natural way to optimize their health by benefiting from the high concentration of vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals abundantly available in microgreens. We’re located at Goerzwerk, an innovation and sustainability-oriented business campus in Berlin.
