About Bethel Agricultural Association
Bethel Agricultural Association, Inc. (BAA) is a nonprofit organization in the United States. Bethel Environmental and Agricultural University and Training Center (BEAUTC), is a project in Ethiopia supported by BAA. It is an educational institution dedicated to pushing back against the forces of land degradation, desertification, and drought which continually undermine Ethiopia's economic development and it's people's well-being. BEAUTC is located in Woliso, Ethiopia and land (32 acres) has been acquired to serve as the site for BEAUTC. Recent activities included conducting agricultural- and environmental-themed workshops, developing a site plan, installing a fence around the property, and planning for the addition of a water well, guest house, and a lab. Efforts are being focused on training and equipping farmers, community leaders, and agricultural specialists at all levels in practices that will revitalize, protect, and preserve the country's valuable land and water resources. Business development will also be emphasized. Currently in development is a farm where sustainable agricultural practices will be tested and demonstrated. In addition, this farm will serve as an educational resource for students. The overall goal of this project is to reduce environmental degradation and increase Ethiopia's capacity to produce more and better food, thus empowering citizens by boosting livelihoods, reducing poverty and improving people's nutrition and health.
