I didn’t start Beyond Protocol to teach exercises. I started it because something vital is slipping away in rehab—and I couldn’t keep watching it happen. As an Occupational Therapist and Certified Hand Therapist, I’ve seen what happens when care becomes mechanical. When clinicians are trained to follow protocols instead of think critically. To treat symptoms instead of people. Most rehab plans ignore the full human experience of healing. We time interventions by a calendar instead of the actual healing process. We skip over the quiet, foundational work early on. We chase range, strength, and milestones—but forget that healing is both a science and an art. Beyond Protocol exists to bring clinicians back to that art. To match treatment to the right phase of healing. To understand the interplay between inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling—and how mistimed care can stall recovery. To restore balance across systems—especially in the shoulder, elbow, and hand. And most of all, to treat the whole person: physically, emotionally, cognitively, and spiritually.
