About Biogas - Shell Low Carbon Solutions

We are turning waste into value. By degassing all the organic waste and residues from households, agriculture, and food industries, we provide molecules, that step by step helps customers worldwide reduce their carbon footprint. At the same time, we make sure that all the nutrients in the organic waste is reused as fertilizer for tomorrow's food production. Our story begins in the late 1970s, when we built and operated the gas grid, on behalf of the Danish government, to prevent a new oil crisis. Since then, we are no longer operating the grid but turned our focus to decarbonizing the energy and in 2015, we opened our first large-scale biogas plant as Nature Energy. In 2023 Nature Energy was acquired by shell and from September 2025 fully integrated in Shell as Shell Low Carbon Solutions Biogas operating operate 13 biogas biogas plants in Denmark, 1 JV in France and three in the US.
