About Biotexcel

Biotexcel focuses on the use of genomic technologies for improving human health. We provide consulting and knowledge dissemination in key genomics areas such as biomarkers, diagnostics & use of genomic technologies such as Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) in clinical applications. Through our knowledge dissemination meetings we attempt to foster a conducive networking atmosphere with the objective of generating collaborations to advance the use of genomics in human health and personalized medicine. The consulting arm provides technical and commercial expertise as well as striking up strategic alliances with other academic and private organizations that have an interest in personalized healthcare; and the knowledge dissemination arm actively engages with opinion leaders to organize workshops, conferences and other events. As a result of our Genomic events, we have brought together research consortia that focus on workflows that enable better and more personalized patient healthcare. For example one particular consortium is focused on putting together workflows employing NGS to find classifiers using circulating biomarkers for breast cancer followed by validation and transfer to novel chemistries & diagnostic devices. Within clinical genetic diagnostics, NGS and other genomic technologies are employed to diagnose whether a patient has a particular disorder but the process of sampling from the patient can involve surgery and cause further distress. Our goal is to view this kind of translational research through the patient perspective and to aim for minimally invasive sampling.
