BioZein is a Biotech Project created by a very a strong partnership between the biggest corn starch producer in China, a powerful bio engineering conglomerate and a group of talented scientists in different parts of the world devoted to Zein since 2006. Together we re-invented zein technology to meet market expectations and to become a significant part of the world's green future. Our unique synergies promise to offer zein formulations at very competitive prices for all applications in large volumes in this time when the world is looking to reduce the reliance on synthetic materials. Zein is a protein extracted from Corn Gluten Meal produced as a by-product during the wet milling of corn. It has a number of unique characteristics and functionalities which makes Zein very valuable in diverse commercial applications: food, confectionary, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, agriculture, packaging, plant based products. Zein is insoluble in water but is soluble in aqueous alcohol and therefore can be extracted using various solvents. Zein’s unique structure makes it a naturally forming bio polymer thus it is perfectly suitable for production of biodegradable plastics. In addition, it is edible and has GRAS status (Generally regarded as safe), it is inherently resistant to water and grease penetration, Thermoplastic, can be molded in shapes, Allergenic friendly, can be used in food products, it is Vegan, it is Halal, Kosher and Non-GMO. Many of the applications of Zein call for high volumes but due to its uncompetitiveness it’s use declined over last years with the growth of synthetic polymers. Today the volume produced worldwide is relatively small and stable and sold at a very high price and is used only in several niche applications. BioZein intends to change this by offering 50-70% reduction on current market prices, lower cost production through patented production engineering technics and ensure supply sustainability and scalable volume.
