About Bishop Wordsworth's Grammar School

Bishop Wordsworth's School is a Church of England grammar school in Salisbury, Wiltshire for students aged 11 to 18. The school is regularly amongst the top-performing schools in England, and in 2010 was the top school performer for the English Baccalaureate. Bishop’s enjoys a hard earned reputation as one of the finest schools in the country. The school is well known for its traditions of excellence, its strong links with the Church of England and the Cathedral, and its sense of pride in the school community. The school has Language College Status, and a second specialism in Science, both of which have further enhanced both facilities and quality of provision, and BWS also became an Academy School in March 2011. We have around 1200 pupils across the school, about 400 of whom are in the Sixth Form. In Years 7-11 we cater for boys only, but since September 2020 we welcomed girls to our coeducational sixth; approximately 30% of Years 12 and 13 are female students. The legacy of Bishop John Wordsworth and our heritage and traditions are something we are very proud of. The marriage of old and new, historical roots and innovative development makes for a unique educational experience for every one of our students. We want to make being at Bishop's special for all of our boys and girls. With our privileged location within the Close and monthly school services in the splendour of the Cathedral, lasting memories are created for current and former students alike.
