About Black Country Touring
Black Country Touring brings some of the best professional touring theatre, cinema and dance from the UK and beyond to the local communities of the Black Country (the boroughs of Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton). We work with local people in the Black Country to programme this work into places where the local community can get to see it – these might be a school, community centre or the local art gallery. Since 2006, we have been creating original productions that reflect the lived experience and cultural diversity of the people in the Black Country – their histories, origins, memories, interests, hopes and aspirations. Our productions are rooted in the passionate belief that everyone has a unique and fascinating story to tell, no matter their background, culture or ethnicity. We also work on projects where people from the Black Country can get directly involved. We’ve run all sorts of events from cross-generational projects to stand-up comedy courses. All our work is about allowing local people access to both the experience of watching and being involved in high quality performance theatre, cinema and dance. Through all the different strands of our work we try to ensure that we are reaching and reflecting the diverse communities of the Black Country. From working with Young Promoters in SEN schools to independent shopkeepers and their customers in town and city centres, we aim to ensure that our work is inclusive and relevant to British contemporary society. We want to encourage different people to come together for shared experiences that are engaging, enjoyable and feel relevant to them and their wider community. In 2020, we were awarded the Queens Award for Voluntary Service in recognition of the work we do with community promoters.
