About Black Male Educators Talk (BMEsTalk)
BMEsTalk: Building a Leadership Ecosystem for Black Men in Education Black Male Educators Talk (BMEsTalk), a Georgia-based initiative, believes that one Black male leader can redefine what's possible for hundreds of students. But they can’t do it alone. That’s why BMEsTalk is building a leadership ecosystem designed to prepare and equip them to effectively serve the needs of a rapidly diversifying student body that’s depending on them. Our approach is unique, because we choose to invest deeply in the whole leader by centering brotherhood, wellness, and identity to build sustainable leadership practices that go beyond titles and certifications. Through leadership circles, convenings and strategic partnerships, we’ve supported over 150 men with more than 240 hours of wellness-centered leadership development since 2022. Our impact is clear: - Over 80% of participants report a renewed commitment to staying in education. - Over 50% have stepped into new or expanded leadership roles in their schools, districts, or communities. As we grow, we’re deepening our impact and expanding the ecosystem so that even more Black men can lead, thrive, and transform education from the inside out. "Never have I ever been in a room with this many Black educators. I’ve been teaching for 10 years." - Jeremy, Georgia “I feel as a Black man that I feel respected and that I am around others who respect me. I feel intellectually safe here.” - Participant “I have grown the most in my ability to pause and be a more active listener, in order to support those I lead. Not jumping to a solution to a conflict or dilemma, but rather getting a complete assessment of a situation before supporting or guiding.” - Alfonso, Georgia For too long, Black men in leadership have lacked spaces that truly see and support them. BMEsTalk is changing that. BMEsTalk is a project of Nafasi Fund.
