Blind Focus is a company that was set up to equip people with effective and meaningful Orientation and Mobility (O&M) skills, in order to empower them, to meet the challenges and opportunities of living with blindness and vision impairment. We listen to our clients and work closely with them to understand how blindness/low vision is affecting their everyday life. Our approach to O&M is based on 30+ years' experience working in the field of blindness and vision impairment. In addition, the evidence-base that underpins our service delivery, is based on the latest research into the lived experience, of how O&M skills are acquired by people living with blindness and low vision. Our experience and approach enables us to design and deliver O&M programs that are effective, meaningful and tailored to individual situations and lifestyles. So what is O&M? Generally speaking, people with normal vision rely on their sight to move about home, school/workplace, and the community. People with impaired vision however, usually need to acquire a specialised set of competencies (O&M skills, concepts, and strategies) to be able to move about their environments safely, effectively, efficiently, and with a sense of independence and confidence. O&M Specialists are the only allied health professionals qualified to provide O&M assessment and instruction to children, adolescents and adults who are blind or vision impaired. Blind Focus also delivers disability consultancy and professional development, to organisations and independent services providers, to enhance the quality of services delivered to people living with disabilities. Blind Focus is based in NSW and Tasmania, and we travel to see clients throughout Australia. We work with NDIS and non-NDIS participants on a fee-for-service basis.
