Blom Veugelers Zuiderman Advocaten is a niche law firm specialising in Dutch pension law. We solve complex pension issues in a practical and comprehensible way, either through litigation, advice and negotiation and mediation / binding advice. Most of our clients can be found in the corporate market: pension funds and their executive and supervisory board, insurance companies, medium size and large employers and multinational companies. We also advise and assist representative bodies of pension funds, works councils, associations of pensioners and private clients. While specialising in Dutch pension law, a number of our clients and cases have an international background. We work for clients based in (e.g.) the USA, Canada, the UK, Germany, France and Belgium. Our lawyers have extensive experience in pension law. Also, the firm has the luxury of a lawyer exclusively dedicated to support our know-how. We value our advisory practice, but we are litigators at heart. Our strategy is founded in litigation experience which enhances our advice. At first, we seek a solution through negotiations, never forgetting that a solution reflecting the interests of both parties will last. In addition, alternative dispute resolution is one of our valuable tools in settling disputes. We successfully settle pension disputes through mediation, arbitration and binding advice procedures on a regular basis. Aided by external actuarial advisers, we are able to establish the financial merits of a pensions case and provide strategic advice. We have extensive experience in turnaround management of pension funds, implementing the continuously changing pension fund governance principles founded in the Dutch Pensions Act. Also, we assist pension funds and employers dealing with the financial consequences of low interest rates and longevity, e.g. advising on pension funds mandatory recovery plans or on employer funding obligations in respect of deficits.
