Broadcast Signal Distribution: BluLemon is the world's first signal distributor for DVB-T2 Narrowband Television Broadcasting in the L-Band. This application is the only way of migrating Community Television Broadcasting into the digital world as those programmes usually would not fit into the coverage area of a shared DVB-T2 (7 or 8MHz) multiplex carrying 15 or more channels. Blulemon has been issued a signal distribution licence by ICASA in the L Band for signal distribution in Gauteng. The business is about supplying broadcast signal distribution services to community television broadcasting services in the DTT environment using DVB-T2 Narrowband spectrum. In the currently coordinated DTT environment all broadcast services are going to be multiplexed in 8MHz DVB-T2 multiplexes with up to 20 television programmes all sharing the same footprint. Individual illumination such as a smaller coverage as required by most community services will not be possible in this implementation method. Therefore, it is planned to use the narrower 1.7MHz mode to create such individual footprints in the L-Band or VHF. The frequency spectrum we utilize is granted by ICASA to Blulemon to provide a service in the following bands: L-band broadcast spectrum: 1,452,000 to 1,492,000 MHz VHF broadcast spectrum: 174 to 254 MHz The required transmitter and related equipment will be provided for each service individually and usually at a lower power than the large coverage transmitter networks such as operated by Sentech or Orbicom. It will be therefore a solution with lower budget requirements which ideally fits the requirements of community broadcasting services. In this way it will be possible to translate the implementation of community television broadcasting from the analogue to the digital world. This concept of broadcasting is therefore essential for the DTT regulatory framework in South Africa and Sub- Saharan countries.
