BoCA - Biennial of Contemporary Arts 〰️ 4th edition – Invisible Present 〰️ 02.09 – 15.10 2023, Lisbon and Faro With the artistic direction of John Romão, BoCA – Biennial of Contemporary Arts cultivates a diverse and transdisciplinary cultural ecosystem, based on synergies between cities (from Lisbon, intersections are established with other Portuguese and foreign cities), between cultural facilities (museums, theatres, galleries, heritage sites) and the public space, between artistic territories (performing arts, visual arts, music and cinema) and between their respective audiences. Throughout its seven years of history and its last three editions, it has had the participation of more than 200 national and international artists, more than 70 world and national premieres, and names such as Marina Abramović, Grada Kilomba, Gus Van Sant, Marlene Monteiro Freitas, Romeo Castellucci, Vhils, Tânia Carvalho, Jérôme Bel, Angélica Liddell, among others. In addition to the biennial, BoCA develops a regular programme of participatory activities and commission, production and circulation of artistic projects, from which it intends to contribute energetically to contemporary socio-cultural reflection and support the processes of artistic construction of the present and the future.
